11 Plus London was founded by Jane Li and Andrew Reid in 2014. Offering high quality tutoring solutions through classes, courses, private one-to-one sessions and online lessons, we cater for those preparing for all kinds of exams – 7 plus to 13 plus entrance exams, GCSEs, IB and A-levels included. We provide a wide range of support to assist with the demands of these important assessments, with an emphasis on the maths, English and reasoning examinations. Special attention is also focused on helping students improve exam technique, planning and problem solving, as well as gaining confidence in public speaking and interviews.

Over the past 10 years, we have overseen instruction to over 750 students taking Independent and Grammar school entrance exams, reaping remarkable results with a success rate of over 90%. Yearly success stories include places and bursaries secured to some of the most respected and coveted schools in the country, including St Paul’s, City of London, Kings and North London Collegiate. Now considered experts in the field, we seek to add more success stories to the record, offering new tuition techniques for all kinds of entrance exam, as well as branching out into GCSE, A-Level and university level tuition.

With a team of over 20 experienced tutors (some specialised in certain subjects only, with other super tutors capable of teaching multiple subjects at various levels), we have gone on to become one of the most successful and sought-after extra tuition services in the city, lending ourselves to the needs of parents and children, not only in London, but also in the surrounding counties.

Bringing many years of tuition experience from previous roles, and taking inspiration and guidance from our old teacher Ms Duffy, from the outset we sought to provide children with the highest possible chance for success, creating unique and comprehensive programs for 7 – 11 Plus. Extending the provision to 13 Plus, GCSE and A-level, in multiple subjects, we now offer a wide range of engaging classes and courses, which can be taken both in schools and online. Although specialised to help children with examinations in particular, the programs are developed with a view to give them essential transferable skills that will aid them throughout and in many aspects of life. And by branching out into the fields of science and modern languages, we provide expert instruction in all the core subjects needed for any educational path.

Tutoring Experience and Qualifications

Jane attended Queen Mary University where she studied a BSc in Economics, graduating with honours in 2009. An avid number cruncher, Jane heads up the maths department of 11 Plus London, managing all aspects of maths and Non-verbal Reasoning instruction.

Following a stint working with Kumon after university, while also working as a private maths tutor, Jane accumulated 1,000s of hours of teaching experience, helping many children secure places to top schools over the years. She then joined forces with Andrew Reid to form their first tuition centre in 2010. Utilising her experience of running tuition centres and tutoring children, she enabled the pair to expand quickly, branching out into provision of different types of tuition services and seeing them open two more tuition centres after just two years.

Jane then went on to complete a CELTA at Plumstead College in Woolwich, gaining a significant understanding of the English language, as well as improving upon and adding to her teaching styles and methods respectively.

Tutoring Vision

Jane currently holds the position of Mathematics Manager and Director and has a keen interest in reading about subjects pertinent to her roles – in particular Cognitive Science, Psychology and the effects on children and mental development.

Jane’s ethos is one of the major driving forces behind 11 Plus London – she is a firm believer in discipline, consistent practice and perseverance. Instilling these practices into her students, coupled with her natural ability to deliver clear messages and teach complex topics, has seen many 11 Plus London attendees gain those coveted places in their desired schools.

With over 10,000 hours of teaching experience in a wide range of subjects, Andrew has helped over 750 students prepare for their 11 Plus and 10 Plus exams by means of weekly classes, courses and private tuition.

After studying Linguistics with Artificial Intelligence at Sussex University, Andrew obtained a Ba with honours in 2004. He has much experience teaching both adults and children in a range of subjects including: English, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Geography, History, Spanish, Italian and French.

Tutoring Vision

After partnering up with Jane Li to form 11 Plus London, Andrew currently holds the position of English Manager and Director, controlling the English, science and verbal reasoning programs. Having been a member of Mensa since the age of 12, Andrew regularly teaches private lessons in many subjects from 11 plus, up to GCSE and A-levels. His particular passion for literature drove him to develop the 11 Plus London English programs. These constitute a core part of the 11 Plus instruction given in the tuition courses, as well as with students taking private and online classes.

Andrew takes a holistic approach to learning, encouraging children to make connections and ‘join the dots’ between otherwise discreet bits of knowledge. His appreciation for language and literature enables him to make use of a wide range of examples and analogies, encouraging children to learn faster and maintain memories more effectively.

Connie is an enthusiastic tutor with 100s of hours of experience working with children in classrooms and online. She aims to increase her students’ interest in maths and science and has been involved in mentoring students preparing for Key Stage SATs as well as differing levels of entrance exams from 7 Plus to 11 Plus. After receiving a BSc in Pharmacology, Connie has volunteered at various science outreach events, such as the Manchester Science Festival. From her experiences, she has been exposed to a number of different and innovative ways of engaging children with science. Being inspired by these methods, she hopes that she will be able to incorporate and build upon these ideas within her teaching and engage her students even more by encouraging them to think outside the box.

Thanks to her organisational skills, Connie also heads up the administration team at 11 Plus London, ensuring that everything behind the scenes runs as smoothly as they do in the classrooms.
