What is the 11 Plus Preparation Programme?

Our 11+ Preparation Programme provides knowledge and instruction in all topics and areas including maths, creative writing, comprehension, non verbal reasoning, verbal reasoning, exam practice and interview experience. We prepare for the entrance exams in most private and grammar schools in London and the surrounding counties, and have successfully prepared over 750 children to date for schools such as St. Paul’s, Wetherby, Godolphin, City of London, Wallington and  many more.

Bear in mind, many children will not be able to achieve the high results required for admission (depending on how soon preparation begins, the natural abilities of the child, and the increasing levels of competition) and so we carry out ongoing assessment in order to let you know as soon as possible how likely it is for your child to pass and under which circumstances success will be most likely. We operate a strict policy whereby we only continue tuition for children who are suitable in terms of ability, potential and personality. We provide feedback on these issues and will be in a position to comment on this after 4-8 weeks of instruction (depending on the level and age of child).

How is the Course Delivered?

We have classes running all year. Children are welcome to join us at any time of the year as our classes are designed to cover the entire syllabus, irrespective of the start term. Ideally however, children should be enrolled as early as possible in order to get the maximum benefit from the classes. This is important because many schools now require a pre-exam before the main November/December exam, giving students three months less to prepare. An early start ensures that your child will get adequate practice before these exams, removing the panic of last minute preparations and cramming. Despite this, we have also seen significant improvement with children who attend just a week/few weeks before the exam. There are also the intensive courses available to those who find this option most suitable.

The 11 Plus Preparation Programmes are available for  in students in year 3 to year 6 and can be taken in two ways: We offer structured, versatile online courses, with top quality physical materials supplied to support hourly lessons given each week, in each subject. We also host weekly classes at our central London school venue.

Online Classes

The online option is controlled by our course managers, with instruction given by experienced teachers, who follow our programmes closely, ensuring the best service possible. Students take live online classes with a tutor in small groups of 2-4 students. This ensures a dynamic environment for children to learn and also allows for each child to receive enough attention.

We make use of an online interactive whiteboard alongside online video calling via Google Meet, Skype or Zoom. This tried and tested method is very easy to use – thanks to our years of experience working with students internationally, we now have a track record of effective online tuition with children from ages 8 to 18 in many subjects. The only pre-requisite for the student is that they are at Key Stage 2 level and thus mature enough to engage online comfortably.

Advances in digital technology have been empowering for the educational sphere and children are usually more engaged and get more attention from our online classes than they would anywhere else (including school!)

Weekly Classes at School

Our weekly classes take place at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Sloane Square. Classes run in a similar format – utilising our unique programmes – albeit with larger group sizes. Both options are notably effective and come highly recommended, as can be seen by our Google reviews and testimonials.

The maximum class size is usually 12, with numbers usually varying between 6-12 students. However at current, due to the current coronavirus situation, our lessons are now delivered online by live tutors and students are in groups of 2 – 4 children. This enables the teachers to give one-to-one support whilst maintaining the group dynamic which adds support and encouragement from peers. Children tell us they like meeting other children from different schools who are also sitting the exam – working in a group helps children to become more comfortable and confident in a shorter time-frame. Each week’s classes runs for 120 minutes (online) and is divided into topics: half the session is dedicated to maths and non-verbal reasoning, with the second half focusing on English and verbal reasoning. Timing/technique sessions are held in a larger group to provide an exam ‘atmosphere’ and to enable your child to learn to focus under timed conditions.

How are the Courses Structured?

Each week we teach different required topics according to our structured program and the 11 Plus syllabus. Students are instructed in various techniques to show them how to answer questions in the correct way, which gives them the means to handle any new type of problem as they progress. Sample 11 Plus questions and papers are used for practice and to check learning, with weekly homework based on what has been covered in class. Parents can monitor progress easily and will know in advance the topics being taught each week.

11 Plus for Year 3 Students

In order to stand the best chance of success, it is crucial to get started as early as possible as this gets your child up-to-speed and ready for formal testing. We take on and recommend that children start from as early as Year 3, so as to ensure they attain the range of skills necessary for this kind of assessment. This course lays the foundation for students so that they are efficient at key problem solving techniques required for all four subjects (maths, English, verbal reasoning & non-verbal reasoning). Year 3 children will also be introduced to technique, timing and mock exam practice.

Advanced vocabulary work and creative writing are also taught during the larger group sessions to encourage discussion and to enable children to learn from each other. This enables children to develop their writing skills to a high level within a supportive and fun environment.

Classroom lessons are temporarily suspended due to the current government lockdown.

We recommend Year 3 students enrol in our comprehensive online classes for maths, English and science. Please click here for more details.

This approach has been very successful so far. Children benefit from small dynamic groups so tutors can ensure each child receives the attention needed. We will be using just two tools: an online interactive whiteboard and online video calling. This is a tried and tested method as we have been completing online tuition for many years with students internationally and now have a track record of effective online tuition with children from ages 8 to 18 in many subjects.
