What is it?

What is the 11 Plus Preparation Programme?

Our 11+ Preparation Programme provides full instruction across all areas of the exam, including maths, creative writing, comprehension, creative comprehension, verbal reasoning, non-verbal reasoning, puzzles, logic, exam practice and interview experience. We specialise in preparing children for entrance exams to top private and grammar schools in London and the surrounding counties, with a proven track record of success.

Over the past 15 years, more than 900 children have secured places at prestigious schools such as St Paul’s, Wetherby, Godolphin & Latymer, City of London, Putney High, King’s College School, Wallington, Tiffins, Henrietta Barnett and many others.

It is important to note that not all children will achieve the high results required for selective school admission. This depends on when preparation begins, the child’s natural ability, and the increasing levels of competition. For this reason, we carry out ongoing assessment and keep you informed from the outset about your child’s progress and their likelihood of success.

We operate a strict policy of continuing tuition only for children we believe are suitable candidates in terms of ability, potential and personality. After 4–8 weeks of instruction (depending on age and level), we will be in a position to comment honestly on whether your child is likely to succeed and under which circumstances.

Who is it for?

Who is the 11 Plus Preparation Programme for?

Our 11 Plus Preparation Programme is designed for pupils in Year 3 to Year 6 who are preparing for competitive 11+ grammar school and independent school entrance exams. Children are placed into groups according to their year group and ability, ensuring that teaching is carefully matched to their needs and targets.

Year 3 – Building strong foundations for 11+

Our Year 3 11+ course lays the foundations for future exam success. Pupils learn key problem-solving techniques across all four core 11+ subjects: maths, English, verbal reasoning and non-verbal reasoning. They are gently introduced to exam technique, timing and early mock exam practice.

In larger group sessions, children take part in advanced vocabulary work and creative writing, encouraging discussion and peer learning. This supportive, fun environment helps pupils develop strong writing skills and early confidence with 11+ style tasks.

Year 4 – Securing core skills and 11+ techniques

We recommend that children start the programme no later than Year 4, so they have enough time to build the skills needed for 11+ entrance exams. The Year 4 course introduces more challenging topics while consolidating core skills in maths and English.

Pupils learn how to approach a wide variety of 11+ style questions and are given plenty of opportunity to practise the techniques required for maths, English, verbal reasoning and non-verbal reasoning. This year is about securing strong foundations and good working habits.

Year 5 – Full 11 Plus exam preparation

Our Year 5 11+ course prepares pupils directly for their 11 Plus entrance examinations for grammar and private schools. Tuition follows the full 11+ syllabus and covers all key topics in depth.

At this stage, there is a strong emphasis on practice, accuracy and exam technique, together with interview preparation for those applying to independent schools. Year 5 is the main intensive preparation year for most pupils aiming at selective schools.

Year 6 – Final refinement and exam technique

In Year 6, the focus is on refining exam skills and gaining maximum marks through efficient techniques. Pupils work through timed practice papers, targeted exercises and group interview sessions covering numeracy, literacy and reasoning, helping them feel confident and well prepared in the final months before the 11+ exams.

When should children start 11+ preparation?

We run 11+ classes all year round, and children are welcome to join at any time, as our courses are designed to cover the entire syllabus regardless of the start term.

However, we strongly recommend enrolling your child as early as possible. Many selective schools now require a pre-test before the main November/December exams, giving pupils less time to prepare. An early start provides:

  • Adequate practice before pre-tests and main 11+ exams
  • Reduced stress and less last-minute cramming
  • Stronger foundations in maths, English, reasoning and exam technique
  • Time to build confidence and steady progress

Even so, we have seen significant improvement in children who join only a few weeks before the exam, especially when combined with our intensive 11+ revision courses.

We also offer intensive 11 Plus courses during Easter, Summer, October half term and Christmas for families who prefer a concentrated burst of preparation or need a final push before exams.

We have successfully guided students into top schools such as:

  • St. Paul’s School
  • Notting Hill and Ealing
  • Latymer Upper
  • North London Consortium
  • Dulwich College
  • Westminster
  • Wetherby
  • Queen’s College
  • Whitgift School
  • Trinity School
  • City of London School
  • King’s College School
  • Putney High School
  • Emanuel School
  • Francis Holland
  • Wilson’s School
  • Wallington Grammar School
  • Tiffin School
  • and much more…

The team is very approachable, polite and honest especially Jane. My ds got into QE boys Barnet with a decent score. They have been helping my daughter for her exams in 2025 and are a big help in building her confidence. I would genuinely recommend the lessons”

“Excellent Saturday school and tuition. Run by friendly, professional people with many years of experience with the schooling systems (grammars and fee paying private schools). My son attended from age 8 to 10 when he sat the 11+ and passed Kent grammar exams with flying colours. I recommend 11PlusLondon very highly and now use them for my youngest son, who enjoys the classes.”

ESME (Verified on Google)

“When we initially joined, we understood that our daughter needed to academically excel in order to be competitive for the 11+ exams so we joined these classes. From the very first week, my daughter came home intrigued, happy and keen to go back.
The classes are fun, well planned, engaging and buzzing with a can-do ambience.
The first week’s homework was somewhat daunting for me as the parent as I though oh there a lot here to do, how is this going to be possible, but my daughter enjoyed and relished the challenge which was a big surprise.
The journey hasn’t been an easy one as I’m sure any parent will tell you going through the 11+ process but what I can say to you is that these guys make it a whole lot easier, more relaxed and are always on hand to help. Whether that is you’ve got a question regarding the whole process of things or that the child isn’t quite getting the hand of the new work material they have just learnt, this is the place to be…”

BIBI (Verified on Google)

“My daughter was really happy to study in the 11plus London, she learnt a lots and make friends there, at the end she still missing the place.
My friend recommended this centre to us, because I’m afraid to trying any place without recommendations, sometimes just waste money and time. But we got the right place to study. Really appreciate all the teachers, its group lessons but the teachers treat everyone children likes individual lessons, they helped each student to correct the home work, and the topics cover everything and give more work which your child the weak topic.
Too much wants to tell, they caring every children leaning in the centre and really helps a lot. And really surprising is my child love there and never complain about study that means she really enjoys study there. This is the happiest things we thought about it.
Hope this message could help the parents and children find the right place to learn.”
