What is it?

What is the 8 Week 11+ Summer crash course?

The 8 Week 11+ Summer crash course is an online intensive tuition program that runs for 8 weeks throughout the summer holidays. It has been developed for students getting ready to sit entrance exams for private and grammar schools in London, and the surrounding counties.

In this critical period before term starts, students taking the course will be able to get instruction in a wide range of topics in maths, English and reasoning – all of which are likely to be assessed in private and grammar school entrance exams. The course is especially useful for students set to take the exam at the end of the autumn term, helping them by providing a comprehensive and complete course of tuition and revision. It is also ideal for any and all other students in need of improvement in one or more areas, and is slightly slower paced than our intensive 5 day courses, which follows a similar syllabus and structure.

How is the course structured?

Each week we teach different topics from the 11 Plus test, according to our structured program and the 11 Plus syllabus.

Your child will receive 120 minutes of online teaching time taught by a live and highly experienced 11+ tutor. Classes are divided into topics: half the session (1 hour) is dedicated to maths and non-verbal reasoning, the second half (1 hour long) focusing on English and verbal reasoning.  Timing/technique sessions may be held in a larger group to provide an exam-like ‘atmosphere’ and to enable your child to learn to focus under timed conditions.

Students are instructed in techniques showing them how to answer questions in the correct way, giving them the means to handle any new type of problem as they progress. All materials are included in the fees and students will receive homework posted or sent to them online. Paper and online homework forms a linchpin of the course, with students completing weekly tasks, based on the instruction from each class session.

Additionally, children will be given interview experience to complete the checklist of essential aspects required to face the examinations. We carry out ongoing assessment throughout all of our courses, in order to let you know how likely it is for your child to pass, where they struggle, and under which circumstances success that will be most likely. We may suggest supplemental instruction via one-to-one classes if deemed necessary, and operate a strict policy whereby we only continue tuition for children who are suitable in terms of ability, potential and personality.

Who is it for?

Who is the 8 Week 11+ Summer crash course for?

The 8 Week 11+ Summer crash course is for two types of children: Ones who will be completing their entrance exams in the autumn term, and in need of a boost before term starts. It is also a valuable opportunity for almost all children to utilise the summer most productively and catch-up or get ahead before a challenging new school year. All children are assessed independently, so this course comes at the perfect time to iron out the creases, plug gaps in knowledge, and improve in the areas of weakness.

While the full spectrum of topics are covered for each year group, the course is markedly ideal for students who need to fine-tune skills and get in more practice with maths and reasoning, as well as for those who need to improve exam technique or develop their creative writing skills. It is designed for children preparing for grammar and private schools such as:

When and where?

Where is the course delivered?

The Online version of the 8 Week 11+ Summer crash course is controlled by our teaching managers, with instruction given by experienced tutors, who follow our programmes closely, ensuring the best service possible. Students take live online classes with a tutor in small groups of 2-4 students, which ensures a dynamic environment for children to learn and also allows for each child to receive enough attention.

For class sessions, we make use of an online interactive whiteboard alongside online video calling via Google Meet or Zoom This tried and tested method is very easy to use – and thanks to our years of experience working with students internationally, we now have a track record of effective online tuition with children from ages 8 to 18 in many subjects. The only pre-requisite for this course is that the student must be going into year 5 or year 6. This means that the material is suitable as well as making sure they are mature enough to engage online comfortably.

Advances in digital technology have been empowering for the educational sphere and children are usually more engaged and get more attention from our online classes than they would anywhere else (including school!) For this reason, our lessons are delivered online in small groups of 2 – 4 children. This range enables the teachers to give one-to-one support whilst maintaining the group dynamic which adds support and encouragement from peers. Children tell us they like meeting other children from different schools who are also sitting the exam – working in a group helps children to become more comfortable and confident in a shorter time-frame.

When is the 8 Week 11+ Summer crash course?

Dates: 11th July 2020 – 29th August 2020

“Jane and Andrew are very responsible and extremely helpful. Their tutoring is very effective and personalized. We sincerely appreciate their help. My son got offers from top London schools including CLS. Highly recommended!”

“Really grateful to the team. My youngest attended courses for 11 plus prep and then we took up their online tuition to finish up with her and my son doing GCSEs next summer. I wasn’t too keen on online to begin with but it certainly does the trick. We have got places for our top three choices and feel very confident about the pending GCSE results. Very happy, highly recommended.”

“We are very happy with Jane and Andrew who are both professional and enthusiastic. My DS has passed all paper exams and were invited for interviews by all applied schools including SPB and CLS.”

“Can’t recommend them enough. My son is more confident and is making amazing progress. He is no longer worried about mistakes and sees them as a learning opportunity thanks to Jane and Andrew. Brilliant feedback and tips from the staff too.”

“Very happy with their classes. My daughter enjoys their classes very much and got in to the schools for the 11+. Would recommend.”
