Attending our Summer Intensive Course will allow your child to develop their skills and exam technique so they are fully equipped to tackle the 9 plus entrance examinations. It covers all key aspects of the exam in an encouraging and engaging manner, covering a vast syllabus in just 5 days.
The 9 Plus Summer Intensive Course is designed to support children preparing for their upcoming 9 Plus entrance exams, helping them consolidate core knowledge, address gaps, and refine exam technique. It is suitable for pupils who have started preparation later and need focused coverage in a short time, as well as those who have been preparing throughout the year and want to strengthen performance and confidence.
Academic progress can often slow over the long summer break, making this an ideal time to revisit the most commonly examined areas of the 9 Plus syllabus. Throughout the week, pupils reinforce existing understanding while developing greater accuracy, speed and confidence in their approach.
Teaching focuses on the four key elements of the 9 Plus admissions process:
Interview sessions introduce children to what to expect on the day, including how to answer questions clearly, think aloud under pressure, and take part confidently in group interviews. Tutors closely monitor progress throughout the course, recording detailed observations to inform feedback.
Class sizes are kept small, capped at a 7:1 pupil-to-tutor ratio. Our Summer 9+ courses usually average only 3–4 children per group, ensuring a calm learning environment with plenty of individual support. Coursebooks and materials are provided for use during the course and returned to pupils at the end, allowing further revision of key topics and tutor-identified areas for improvement.
The Summer Intensive Course runs over five days (Monday to Friday), from 10:00am to 3:30pm each day. Lessons are interactive, supportive and carefully structured to keep children engaged, motivated and confident throughout the week.
The course begins and ends with mock examinations taken under timed test conditions. These assessments help pupils become familiar with real exam formats while giving tutors valuable insight into individual strengths and areas for development.
Results from the mock exams allow teaching to be adapted during the week, ensuring each child is appropriately challenged. Following the course, parents receive a detailed report based on their child’s performance and progress within 10 working days.

Children are welcome to attend for multiple weeks. For pupils continuing beyond the first week, we create a tailored programme and group them with other children who are also attending for additional weeks. Each week focuses on new content, so returning pupils continue to build on their skills and knowledge rather than repeating the same material.
The 9 Plus Summer Course is designed for Year 3 students preparing for 9+ independent school entrance exams, as well as Year 3 students gearing up for 10+/11+ independent and grammar school exams. Whether your child has been preparing for years or is just starting their journey, this course welcomes all students, regardless of their current stage in the process.
